„Walk through a winter wonderland“

Winter hikes and snow-shoeing

A walk through a winter wonderland

Hiking in winter? Yes of course! The gentle grass mountains around the area of Viehhofen offer beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and are simply a paradise for hikers - both in summer and in winter.

Winter Hiking

In Viehhofen and the surrounding villages, an extensive network of well signposted winter hiking trails of every kind have been established over the last few years. You can pick up maps and directions from the Viehhofen Tourist Office.

If you walk along the river Saalach, an illuminated path goes from the church over the Burgsteinbrücke (bridge), past the Glemmy Offroad Park to the Gasthof Glemmerhof.

In the opposite direction (into the valley), there is an illuminated path until Rottenbach alongside the river Saalach, which continues to Exenbach.

Especially recommended, is the hiking trail to the Hecherhütte (approx. 1.5 hours), which can also be reached during the winter months.

Snow-shoeing is a little less demanding, but nevertheless just as attractive as ski touring and also allows non-skiers to experience the deep snow in a winter landscape away from the hiking trails and pistes. Snow-shoeing is also a timeless sport that can be enjoyed by all age groups. Snow-shoeing is therefore an ideal activity for the whole family to enjoy together.

Please note: Snowshoeing hikes are mostly in open terrain, away from the safety of hiking trails and the pistes. Therefore, great care is required as well as a knowledge of the surrounding area. We therefore recommend that beginners partake in special guided tours. Snow-shoeing tours are great fun and you will also learn the correct technique.
